Recommended Footwear
At Footworks, we recognize the need for foot strengthening in all of our patients. Strong feet tend to be healthy feet. Wearing bulky shoes with thick outsoles weakens both the intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the feet. For this reason we recommend everyone migrate to thinner, more minimal shoes.
There is a huge upside to doing so. As your muscles become stronger, they are able to withstand more activity. Since they can then withstand more activity they get stronger, and do not hurt as much. Since they do not hurt as much, they can withstand more activity, and on and on it goes.
The default state for our feet should be barefoot. Walking barefoot as much as possible should be everyone's goal, with few exceptions.
Since it isn't practical to be barefoot all the time, and you need a shoe to put your orthotic in, we decided to open Revolution Natural Running & Walking Center to fill a need that was not being addressed in the Milwaukee area.
Revolution is a place for people from all walks of life to go and find, in one store, all types of thinner, minimalist and "barefoot" style shoes. When you are wearing these types of shoes, your feet will be getting a workout - while you are wearing them!
